DTVRecord v1.001
Created by Michael Friday
Single EXE
File Size: 128 KB
Tested on: Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, NT, XP Home and Pro Vista Users Read This
Prerequisites: DScaler software, DScaler supported capture card.
If you get an error when starting:
mscomctl.ocx or comctl32.ocx error: Install THIS
Any other error: you will need to install VB6sp6 runtime.
DScaler is hands down THE best software to use for watching cable on your PC! I've been using it for years and it's FREE! Problem is, you can't do timed recordings (time shifting) with it. That's why I made DTVRecord! DTVRecord is a single exe. So you can put it anywhere! No other files are written to your hard drive. Only one entry (path to DScaler) is made to the system registry!
What does it do?
DTVRecord does NOT actually do the recording. DScaler does that.
DTVRecord basically starts up DScaler, changes it to your selected channel and starts recording. It then stops recording and shuts down DScaler at your selected stop time.
How do I use it?
Usage is pretty self explanatory. Enter channel, start and stop times, click "Start At". Thats it! Or Click "Start Now" to start recording immediately. In this case, you just set the end time.
What If I want to record multiple shows?
You can only set up a single recording session with DTVRecord.
To get around this, just start up as many instances of DTVRecord that you need!
Be careful that you do not overlap recording times when doing this.
You will not get any errors, but you will not get the recording you were expecting either.
For best results, make sure you set up your recording options in DScaler first. (Actions>Recording>Options) Try to use a secondary hard drive (defragmented) and test different compression methods until you are satisfied with recording quality. It all depends upon the speed of your PC and it's configuration. You are trying to balance frame/file size and compression (picture quality) to minimize dropped frames. Enjoy!
